Scope of Works
Our team was commissioned to completely remove the existing closed-protocol fire alarm system and install a new open-protocol Advanced Fire Alarm system at the Avato / Avon Distribution Centre in Corby.
Key components included:
- A 3-panel networked Advanced fire alarm system
- 18 fire beams for extended coverage
- Comprehensive smoke detection and manual call points (MCPs) across the facility
This upgrade was part of a broader renovation and expansion initiative on site.
Project Objectives
The client needed a fully compliant, modern fire detection system to:
- Support the facility’s expansion
- Enhance fire safety standards
- Maintain uninterrupted operational continuity during the project
Challenges and Solutions
As the site remained operational throughout the upgrade, careful coordination was essential. Our team successfully managed this by:
- Collaborating closely with the on-site engineering and health & safety teams
- Performing works during out-of-hours periods and pre-approved shutdowns
- Installing the new system in parallel with the existing one to maintain full fire coverage
- Developing custom cause-and-effect programming to allow for weekly isolation testing and future contractor integration
- Identifying and resolving additional system issues to ensure full L1 compliance under BS 5839
Results and Feedback
The project was completed safely, on time, and to a high standard. The new system now delivers:
- Improved fire detection coverage
- Seamless integration
- Future-ready scalability and functionality
