The problem

An alarm nobody responds to is just noise

These are the gaps we find most often:

1

No monitoring, so nobody knows the alarm has gone off.

2

No police URN, so there's no police response.

3

No NSI certificate, so the insurer asks questions.

4

The wrong grade of system for the building or the insurance policy.

Get the design right once, and the alarm protects the building, keeps your insurer happy and gets a response.

SAFE in-house training and development suite
Your guide

Designed and fitted by our own experienced engineers

We're SAFE Fire & Security Systems, a BAFE registered and NSI approved fire and security company based on Shelah Road in Halesowen, installing intruder alarm and security systems across the West Midlands. NSI audits us against British Standards, and our engineers and staff are security screened to BS 7858, as NSI requires.

SAFE was set up by best mates Martin and Adam, engineers who learned the trade at large national companies and wanted to give local businesses a more personal service. The work is led by our own experienced engineers, alongside two apprentices we're training up.

You're welcome to visit our in-house training suite and demo room to see the kit working before you decide anything. Why choose SAFE.

The right system

Wired or wireless?

Wired systems

Detectors are cabled back to the control panel.

  • Suits new builds, refurbishments and larger sites
  • No detector batteries to change
  • Very reliable over the long term
Wireless motion detector with built-in camera, ready to be fitted by SAFE

Wireless systems

Detectors talk to the panel by radio, so there's far less cabling.

  • Suits occupied buildings, listed buildings and places where cabling is difficult
  • Quicker to install, with less disruption
  • Easy to add to or move later

Many sites use a mix of the two. We'll recommend the simplest system that properly protects your building and meets what your insurer asks for.

Monitoring

Monitored by EMCS, with police response

We connect your alarm to EMCS, our monitoring partner. When it triggers, trained operators act on it straight away, day or night.

  • About EMCS. An independent Alarm Receiving Centre, established in 1987 and based in Nottingham.
  • NSI Gold approved for intruder and fire monitoring, and accredited to EN 50518 for alarm receiving centres, and ISO 27001.
  • Police response with a URN. We install a confirmed alarm system designed to BS 8243, EMCS monitors it, and we apply for your police URN (Unique Reference Number).

Repeated false alarms can lead to the police withdrawing a URN, which is why the design and maintenance matter. More about monitored intruder alarms. See our alarm monitoring page for fire, intruder, panic, CCTV and access control monitoring.

Insurance

Graded systems your insurer recognises

Intruder alarms are graded from 1 to 4 under the British and European standards, based on the risk. The higher the risk, the higher the grade your insurer is likely to ask for.

  • Grade 2 suits most lower-risk commercial premises, such as offices and small shops.
  • Grade 3 is common for higher-risk sites, such as shops with valuable stock, warehouses and industrial units.
  • Grade 4 is for the highest-risk premises.

Check what your policy says before you choose. At your free site survey we'll look at the building and the insurer's requirements, then design to the right grade. As an NSI approved company we issue an NSI certificate of compliance, which is recognised by insurers.

Empty buildings

Vacant property alarms

An empty building is an easy target for break-ins, vandalism, squatters and metal theft, and often nobody is around to notice. A vacant property alarm watches it for you.

  • Linked to an alarm receiving centre, so an activation is acted on, and to your key holders, so the right person is told straight away.
  • Battery-powered options for buildings with no mains power, so the alarm still works when the supply has been cut off.
  • Fitted and removed to suit you, whether the building is empty between tenants, waiting for sale or awaiting redevelopment.

Who it's for: landlords, property managers, councils and housing providers, and anyone whose insurer has conditions for void or unoccupied properties. Many insurance policies set extra requirements once a building has been empty for a while, so check your policy and we'll design a system to meet it.

Former bank, Halesowen
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank and highly recommend the team at Safe Fire and Security Systems. I am a property manager for commercial and residential spaces in Halesowen, West Midlands and recently entrusted Safe with the fire and security systems in a property that was previously a commercial bank. As my main point of contact Martin was outstanding from day one. Everything regarding the project was explained to me clearly and the work was undertaken promptly and professionally at all times - nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The various engineers that worked on the project were also friendly and professional - a credit to the company. I can not recommend Safe Fire and Security Systems enough and I will not hesitate to use them on the next project that requires any of the services that they offer.”

Four-building site
“Highly recommend SAFE Fire & Security Systems. We brought them in to manage a complex, four-building site, and the transition has been flawless. The management and office team (Adam, Martin, Donna) are responsive and great to deal with, while the engineers on the ground deliver top-level craftsmanship. What really stands out is their rock-solid knowledge of the newer BS 5839-1:2025 regulations—they don't cut corners and they know exactly what they are doing. A thoroughly professional outfit that is a pleasure to work with”

FAQs

Intruder alarm installation: your questions answered

Should I choose a wired or wireless intruder alarm?
It depends on the building. Wired systems suit new builds, refurbishments and larger sites. Wireless systems suit occupied or listed buildings where cabling is difficult. We'll recommend the right one at your free site survey.
What grade of alarm do I need?
That depends on the risk and on what your insurer asks for. Most lower-risk commercial premises need Grade 2, and higher-risk sites often need Grade 3. Check your policy, and we'll design to the right grade.
How do I get police response?
We install a confirmed alarm system designed to BS 8243, EMCS monitors it, and we apply for a police URN. Confirmed alarms then get a police response.
Are your engineers vetted?
Yes. Our engineers and staff are security screened to BS 7858, as NSI requires, and are enhanced DBS-checked for work in schools.
What is the free site survey?
It's a short visit where an engineer looks at your building, how it's used and what your insurer needs, then gives you a clear written proposal. There's no charge and no obligation.
Who maintains the alarm after installation?
We can, with breakdown cover on maintenance contracts. See intruder alarm servicing and maintenance. Our office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
Can you alarm an empty building with no power?
Yes. We fit vacant property alarms for empty and void buildings, including battery-powered systems for properties with no mains power. They can be linked to an alarm receiving centre and to your key holders, and we can design them to meet your insurer's requirements for unoccupied properties.
